A New Song for the Opening of Parliament

CAPP has been rebranded as Canada Participates. At least, there is some kind of action going on. It kinda brings hope to a dark day.  Only fitting because parliament resumes tomorrow and thus, kind of redundant to protest the prorogation.

I’m ordinarily not a Police fan, especially not the song, “Every Breath You Take”: I always thought of it as bubble gum pop for creepy stalkers.

However, a fellow member of CAPP Montreal emailed the lyrics of a variation of that song. The lyrics are quite cute actually and could redeem the tune somewhat.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Pascal!! And to whomever wrote these lyrics!!

In honour of Parliament’s first working day of 2010, we offer the
prime minister some musical inspiration, sung to the tune of “Every
Breath You Take” by the Police.

Every rule you break
Every liberty you take
Every game you play, every holiday,
We’ll be watching you

Every whip you crack
Every word you redact
Every thing you hide, every access denied
We’ll be watching you

Stephen can’t you see
That you work for me
Now the country aches
While you recalibrate

Every childish attack
Every Board you stack
Every partisan choice, every muffled voice
We’ll be watching you

Since you’ve prorogued, we’ve been lost, no government
We just can’t take the excuses you invent
Our trust is gone now, and all our patience spent
Accountability don’t mean what it meant
We keep on crying, Stephen, Stephen please

Today you start anew
But next time, think it through
‘Cuz as of this day, every game you play,
We’ll be watching you.

If we can actually set this to music and film it on youtube and put it on friendly podcasts, could that take away some of St-Stevie’s lustre?
