The closer to the midterms, the more the GOP candidates act like fools, the higher Obama’s approval rating

Thanks in large part to the idiotic statements and actions of the tea party candidates, Obama’s numbers are climbing again. Democratic voters are finally becoming engaged. Obama drawing 37, 000 to an event last week should have sent a message to the right. They had huge leads but they can’t help but blow it.

I don’t doubt the GOP will make gains in November. It’s history; midterms are always bad for incumbents, especially in times of a bad economy and high unemployment. But the closer to the election, the more afraid Americans are becoming.

Contrary to Palin and company, Americans are not so much afraid of Obama’s policies as they are wary of the dangerous and sometimes violent rhetoric of the tea party Republicans. Then again, these candidates can’t keep their mouths shut. They can’t seem to the doors closed on their closets, either. (I see today Palin is panicking, attacking Murkowski with unusually shrill viciousness.)

Now that Obama’s numbers are rising again, it should make a fun election, even if the good guys lose a number of seats.
