Lisbeth Salander, Julian Assange and Sweden

Nothing much ado about anything but I find it interesting that Stieg Larsson’s Swedish heroine Lisbeth Salander was a computer hacker, a sexual heretic and a brilliant mind bent on unraveling evil while being labeled evil by the forces of evil. Julian Assange, while Australian, spent his most infamous time in Sweden, is allegedly sexually careless and is most definitely a hacker of genius.

I don’t know if Salander used WikiLeaks’ primary tool Tor to elude being captured, but I bet she would have been the perfect WikiLeaks agent if she were indeed a living being. I wonder too if Assange deliberately chose Sweden with its contrary climate of openness and claustrophobic sexuality to map his own story of drama and trepidatious risk taking.

While Salandar’s author Larsson is no longer with us, and while his Salander trilogy is still selling like hotcakes both as a books and as movies, it seems natural that some enterprising screenwriter could come up with a new thriller based on Lisbeth Salandar as the ultimate WikiLeaks prankster. I bet it would be devastating although I don’t think palpitating wingers would appreciate the thrills. Somehow I don’t think Assange would mind and I’m pretty sure Larsson would have approved.
