Glad Someone’s Bringing It Up! Good Work Gilles!

Gilles Duceppe calls Stevie Spiteful a liar.

“He lied,” Duceppe said, recalling a 2004 meeting in a Montreal hotel room to hammer out the details of an agreement to replace the then-Liberal government.

And  yanno how Stevie points out how second place finishing  (losers) parties shouldn’t form coalitions? Duceppe points out how, once again, in the world according to Stevie Spiteful, what’s good for the goose ain’t necessarily good for the gander:

But Duceppe says Harper wanted to form his own coalition seven years ago against Paul Martin’s Liberals.

“He finished second in that election,” Duceppe said.

The Bloc leader said Harper even talked about a legislative agenda.

“He came to my office and said ‘What do you want in the speech from the throne?’,” Duceppe said.

Right about now, I think it’s a good idea to copy and paste that original coalition agreement that Stevie wrote to then GG Adrienne Clarkson in 2004, signed by Duceppe and Jack Layton:

September 9, 2004

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson,

C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D.

Governor General

Rideau Hall

1 Sussex Drive

Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A1

Excellency,

As leaders of the opposition parties, we are well aware that, given the Liberal minority government, you could be asked by the Prime Minister to dissolve the 38th Parliament at any time should the House of Commons fail to support some part of the government’s program.

We respectfully point out that the opposition parties, who together constitute a majority in the House, have been in close consultation. We believe that, should a request for dissolution arise this should give you cause, as constitutional practice has determined, to consult the opposition leaders and consider all of your options before exercising your constitutional authority.

Your attention to this matter is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.

Leader of the Opposition

Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada

Gilles Duceppe, M.P.

Leader of the Bloc Quebecois

Jack Layton, M.P.

Leader of the New Democratic Party

I think this letter should be reprinted on billboards for all to see. It should also be displayed on TV screens in opposition attack ads.

Yeah, yeah, the shrieking monkeys over at the Blogging SupposiTories are all working over time, crying over their keyboards trying to twist that 2004 letter to suit their Dreamy dictator’s whims, I’m sure. However, let’s pretend for a moment that Steve loses the election; comes in second to say, a Liberal minority.   Would he not entertain the possibility of gathering Layton the ‘soshalist’ and Duceppe the ‘separatist’ to overthrow a Liberal minority government?

I’ll do one better, one thing I bet the typical Jane and Joe Front porch don’t know about Westminster parliamentary system that in the case where no party wins a majority number of seats, the incumbent has first crack at forming government even if  they are in second place. Given how addicted Stevie is to power and how obsessive and controlling he is, would he cede right away to the party who won the minority? The precedent in Canada does exist; hello MacKenzie-King! I wonder how the electorate would feel about that?  Would they react as vehemently against it as they did to the fateful coalition of 2008?

Liberals! NDP! You may want to take notes from Gilles Duceppe about now!

  • I just posted the same letter. I’m glad others are — it needs to be spread as widely as possible.

  • They might want to take notes from him, like, always. Most effective party leader out there.

  • It’s remarkable that Mr. Harper can write that letter off so cavalierly — particularly when the other signers are there to recount what exactly happened during that meeting. Nothing — absolutely nothing — shames the man.

Did you see him try to explain it away as not really being a coalition because it wasn’t the same as the Liberals coalition or some such drivel. It made absolutely no sense and he was obviously annoyed. How dare the media ask him pointed questions.

The other thing that really needs to be nipped in the bud is his assertion that Canadians don’t want an unnecessary election and trying to place the blame on the opposition. It must be forcefully pointed out that it was Harper who started the pre-election ad onslaught which shows him lying – yet again.

I didn’t see it, but I’ve heard the bad news.

I also caught that Steve’s little campaign speech in Quebec City only yielded about 200 -250 ppl. He apparently needed a teleprompter and didn’t really get that warm of a reception. The biggest hit there was of course, their macho Sara Palin, Ex-Lax Max Bernier. Hell, Ted Hsu, the Liberal candidate in Peter Milliken’s old riding of Kingston and the Islands, event yielded more ppl; about 370, I heard.

Iggy’s campaign kick off rally in Ottawa had about a 1000. Even John Ivison gave him a good review.

    Let’s hope this continues.

  • It’s the job of the media — and us — to ensure that he’s not allowed to write it off. It’s on the record now.

Canada is not safe with “The Harper Government”. I understand, this is how we are to refer our government, as now.

Harper is planning a Global Governance for our country. Harper gave me the willies, right from day one. Harper should be forced to resign, right now. Keep in mind, what Premier Campbell did to BC, when he lied twice to win, two different elections. BC is a dead province for the people. Only big business benefited from Campbell. Harper will do the same to Canada if, God help us, he wins a majority. In BC the media are the, BC Liberals propaganda machine.

The media in the east, seem much more reliable. More interested in good, honest journalism and reporting. In BC we believe, nothing the media has to say.

  • The letter is on my blog as well.
