Wassamatter, Mr. Penninga? Somebody’s having a bad day, I see. Doncha just hate it when people when folks ask questions and think outside the box?

Before I continue, full disclosure: like many Quebecers, I am anti-monarchy and think it’s antiquated and a waste of tax dollars. Furthermore, like Gilles Duceppe said awhile ago, they never work and they live off the backs of the tax-payers. I have to ask, particular today’s neo-cons, who love to villify the poor, . . . → Read More: Royal Pains, Brainwashing of Canada, Big Shiny Distractions Supercede Democracy–Rant Alert

As I lay in bed listening to the chorus of birdsong this morning, a thought occurred to me. The reason Progressives keep failing in our mission to create a more humane world is simple. Mount-Royal, once considered one of the safest Liberal seats since 1940. A riding once held by Pierre-Elliot Trudeau. Now, incumbent Irwin Cotler, while still popular and respected, has seen his vote counts decline steadily over past elections. The Harpercons have been doing their worst to put some of the final nails in the . . . → Read More: Mount-Royal: Probably One of The Most Disturbing Races I Have Witnessed

While the punditry, pollsters, bloggers, media types and spin doctors all sort out as to who won and who lost last night’s French language debate, many from Twitter and Facebook have declared another winner. In the midst of political blogging my co-bloggers and I usually do around here, I always wanted to interrupt this theme with something different. I wonder if Jason Kenney worded his new citizen’s guide in the way that he did purposely to cause trouble so as to deflect the media and the public at large from his party’s own transgressions? Kim Fraser from CJAD devoted the first half of her show, today, discussing Manitoba Judge Robert Dewar’s lenient sentence on a convicted rapist today. No, merit based pay doesn’t work. This is why developed nations, except the US of course, don’t use this system. Instead, well funded schools (instead of paying six million to Liberal party insiders), and appropriate class sizes are just two of the things that the BC government can do to make education better in BC. The Campbell government has wrecked havoc on our school system. These are the things that the left needs to do to realign itself and show the public that we aren’t just here for moralistic, elitist purposes; rather that we want THEM to be treated fairly, honestly, and want to give every economic and social opportunity to those who truly strive for “the good life.” We want THEM, the public, to work with us to to create a just and fair society, and an accountable and TRULY transparent government (do you really believe that Harper only spent 540 dollars in 10 days at the Paralympics?) Personally, I don’t think a culture war is the way to go. I think a socially conscientious movement can win support. We just need to prove to the public that we are serious. . . . → Read More: How Should We Reconstitute the Left? My Cure For A Fractured Movement.
