We have no arrived at the end of the road of election 41 campaign. We have been polled, tweeted, newsed, etc. Before I go on, I would like to review all the party’s campaigns briefly.
Maybe there is something to be said for peek-a-boo campaigns? Jane Taber was certainly very complimentary of . . . → Read More: End of The Road: No Time To Be Lulled Into a False Sense of Security and Stevie Can Still Get His Majority

But…But…Stevie! I thought Canadians weren’t supposed to care about the transgressions of their politicians. Hell, they weren’t supposed to care about Bruce Carson, his disgraced legal career, fraud charges and his saucey ladies of the night. So, why are Canadians supposed to care whether or not Jack Layton decided to have fun at . . . → Read More: Lemme Get This Straight…

While the punditry, pollsters, bloggers, media types and spin doctors all sort out as to who won and who lost last night’s French language debate, many from Twitter and Facebook have declared another winner. Not a political leader; not even in politics. The unsung heroine of last night appears to be none other . . . → Read More: The Winner of The French Debate–Mme Muguette Paille of La Mauricie-Perhaps Canada’s “Joe The Plumber”?

Tonight’s French language debate will no doubt have much fewer viewers outside of Quebec, but there are many Francophones in the rest of Canada who will probably tune in as well. Not to mention, the punditry will all be out observing with the help of translators no doubt and there will be the . . . → Read More: What Needs To Happen In The French Debate This Fine Evening

For openers, I’d really like to know who Stevie Spiteful’s pusher is. I mean, all three of them were attacking him and yet, he always looked calm. Too calm, in fact, he looked stoned. Had to have been a pharmaceutical explanation for this.
Stevie did give himself away though. He has no plans . . . → Read More: Stevie Looked Like He Was On Drugs, Duceppe Won For Facial Expressions, Iggy Didn’t Land That Crucial Punch, Layton Won

It appears that Jack Layton will be undergoing hip surgery soon.
The New Democrats are in a position to determine the timing of the election, depending on their support of the March 22 budget, and Layton’s health problems are now a factor in whether Canadians will go to the polls this spring.
Layton’s . . . → Read More: Perhaps The Biggest Reason Jack Layton Doesn’t Want To Go To An Election

Now I know many who support the NDP, like myself, get bent out of shape when we see the leader of our national party bailing on this ideals. The fact remains, however, that there is little the NDP could actually do to get these cuts changed. They have been enacted into law, thanks to the Liberals again, and changing that legislation is not something that I think is even politically possible, let alone legislatively possible given the Tory majority in the Senate. So what choices did Jack have, and what has he really done here? . . . → Read More: That Sinking Feeling?

According to Susan Delacourt’s latest article, one Don Burroughs received a call from the Harpercons yesterday afternoon. It even appears that a date has been set for March 29th for election day. Here’s more:
Don Burroughs said he received a call from the Conservative party on Friday afternoon and was asked whether he . . . → Read More: Looks Like Harpercons Can’t Wait For The Budget To Call Spring Election

This has been one sad year in Canadian politics. Allan Greg said it best when choosing the political moment of the year on the At Issue Panel this past Thursday: “…put’s us in worlds tallest pygmy territory.” No truer a statement has been said by a political pundit. Yesterday the Canadian Senate voted down Bill C-311, The Climate Change Accountability Act, which holds the government to the fire with regards to a response to Climate Change in Canada. It wants 25% reductions from 1990 levels by 2020, and 80% by 2050. This bill went through Parliament with the support of . . . → Read More: The Canadian Senate: Unelected, Unaccountable, Unhelpful

The Star’s James Travers scared Mattbastard back to bed this morning with a column on the frightening possibility of a Conservative majority. Travers goes through the likely scenarios and maps out the new reality of Canadian politics. That reality has been wedged single-handedly by Harper. Dear readers, let’s forget for a moment where we stand on the long gun registry and gun control for a moment–it’s not what this post is about. Well, it’s official now. Jack Layton will not be whipping his caucus into voting against Mullet head Hoeppner’s Bill c-391, the scrapping of the long gun registry which will no doubt, set the precedent for Stevie Spiteful to go the way of no gun control, just like Texas and Arizona. Both EKOS and the usually Harpercon friendly Ipsos-Reid polls have Harpercon numbers slipping and those of the Liberals rising somewhat bringing them to a near tie with, of course, the Harpercons hanging on to a slight advantage. Time to come clean now. The Canadian voters deserve to know what’s going on.
