Hey – the Edmonton Sun had the best sports section in Alberta when I lived there. A gyu named Terry Jones (not THAT Terry Jones, the other one) was always a good read.

Actually she did mention offsets:

Well, she does do her best, aping the Sun’s dumbed down style in doing so. That said, judging by the comments, it would seem that few bothered reading her words.

STEPPEUP: “Margaret, and other nut’s [sic] like her, still don’t get it. When it comes to the inviroment [sic] you ‘Cannot’ offset your carbon footprint. Once you pollute, you pollute. End of story. Paying any money to ‘Offset’ what you polluted DOES NOT reduce your polution [sic] in any way, shape, or form.”

FACT: At no point in her piece does Ms Atwood mention the environment, carbon footprints, pollution or carbon offsets.

(Here I’m assuming that anyone who can write – however ineptly – can also read.)

Atwood is just digging herself deeper. Sure, we get what she’s saying but she’s preaching to the choir. Sun readers do not read the paper anyway. They look at the pictures and consume the Sports section. Most people’s access to the Sun is through a copy lying on a table at Tim Horton’s. It’s a tabloid, small and precise, with short blurbs that are easy to read while drinking a coffee. What the mostly casual Sun reader likes most about the paper is its perfect size to prevent it’s edges from dipping in the ketchup. The only people who take the Sun seriously are Blogging Tories and let’s face it, there’s not a whole lot of them.
