Stevie Looked Like He Was On Drugs, Duceppe Won For Facial Expressions, Iggy Didn’t Land That Crucial Punch, Layton Won

For openers, I’d really like to know who Stevie Spiteful’s pusher is. I mean, all three of them were attacking him and yet, he always looked calm. Too calm, in fact, he looked stoned.  Had to have been a pharmaceutical explanation for this.

Stevie did give himself away though.  He has no plans to keep the provinces accountable when it comes to health care. In fact, he seems quite a-ok with American health care here in Canada.  No doubt he must be being lobbied by American health care industry types.  They must be as relentless as the NRA.

Tonight’s drinking game would’ve been “It’s simply not true!”  I wonder how many suffered from would be alcohol poisoning after counting how often Stevie Spiteful said “It’s simply not true!”

He also gave himself away on another thing.  A gentleman, I believe from Newfoundland, I forgot his name, asked them if parliament could work together if  yet another minority was the result of this election (I forgot the exact wording of the question).  Stevie jumps in with how another minority would “put government programs in jeopardy”.  He did manage a feeble attempt at saying he would continue to work with the others if given another minority, but he made it clear that he can’t share the same sandbox with others.

I just can’t believe Jean Lapierre declared him the winner earlier this evening on Twitter.  Some of his commentary of late makes me wonder if he plans to vote for the Harpercons? Wouldn’t put it past him.

Loved how Layton jabbed Steve with the crooks all sitting in senate and Duceppe with Harper being soft on crime in his own office.  It certainly paints a dubious picture. Crime is ok for Stevie’s white collar blue blooded friends, but for everyone else, it’s practically life in prison for one pot plant and capital punishment for burglary, it would seem, if he had his way.

After hearing and reading various reviews of the debate. Many seemed to have put Duceppe in last place.  I wonder if that’s anti-Bloc Quebecois bias talking here? I thought Duceppe did very well. Loved his facial expressions and how at times, he looked like he was going to pounce on Stevie Spiteful like a panther.  I thought it was fabulous how he threw in the questions of abortion and capital punishment to Stevie Spiteful. He handled himself quite well in English. If he continues his roll into tomorrow night, in his mother tongue, I expect he’ll wipe the floor with all three of them.

I disagree with him on his lack of enthusiasm for multi-culturalism, but not surprised. I have heard this from him and many separatists time and again. Something Rene Levesque, the founder of the Parti-Quebecois would’ve frowned on.  Levesque did embrace all cultures and languages while wanting French to dominate.  I’m sure he wouldn’t be happy seeing the next generation of separatists today.  I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again; one thing separatists and righties have in common is their disdain for multi-culturalism and their bigotry.

If there was an award for best facial expressions, Duceppe definitely was the winner.

Iggy clearly was the rookie.  Layton, Duceppe and Stevie Spiteful all had the advantage of having debated each other before in pre-election leader debates. Iggy was the odd man out here.  He was nervous and I think it showed. One rule, never let ‘em see you sweat (Yeah, I know, cliche taken from deodorant commercial). Also, he had Layton as well as Stevie to contend with.  I think Iggy found that a leadership debate is a whole different ball game than debating against literary heavy weights like Norman Mailer and Gore Vidal. Very different from talk shows on the BBC.

He held his own on keeping Stevie Spiteful on the defensive as well as scored a few jabs, but he didn’t launch that knock out punch that was deemed so necessary by most if he were to have a hope in hell of having his polling numbers move.

Iggy, at least, didn’t get buried. Sure Jack at the last few seconds of that segment had him on the ropes about absenteism, but I don’t think it was a knock-out punch.  Iggy had been on the road, at least, much of the time, doing his open mike town hall tours; constituency work. I wonder why he didn’t mention that?

Layton did very well and was the winner of the evening.    He was calm, scored some jabs and was consistent.  Duceppe was second place for me.

However, I wish these debates had more drama. Hell, I would’ve welcomed all three of  ’em throwing things at Stevie Spiteful.  I would’ve liked to have seen more animation.

Tomorrow evening is the French language debates which I will tune into, but how many outside of Quebec and other French communities will tune in? Iggy’s chance to attempt to sway the numbers away from Stevie Spiteful was tonight.  Now, that won’t happen.   Many have said that the election is usually decided after the debates. Since Iggy didn’t score that crucial knock out punch,  I think we know who will win this election, don’t we?

  • You were right in an earlier post – the Con media is calling it for Harper. But we always knew they would.

I agree with your assessment on the debate ck. I thought Duceppe did quite well and Harper was weird, staring at the camera and repeating his talking points. I think you might want to add “the economy” to your drinking game though.

  • It’s eerie, the degree to which I agree with your assessment of the debate. Gilles has always appeared to be the only rational adult at these soirees in spite of his colorful accented English. Jack Layton was the most effective and the post debate polling seems to confirm that.

I hadn’t thought of Spite Guy being on tranks or sedation, I just assumed he was biting his tongue and clenching his ass to maintain his Prime Ministerial Cool.

Spite Guy must be relieved that this is over and after tonight’s Affaire en Francaise, he can return to his bubble and never again have to face a citizen or voter that hasn’t been totally vetted and frisked by the RCMP and CSIS and proven to be a dyed in the wool former Deform member and closet fascist!

BTW, I was tired weeks ago of the meme about how onerous elections are and what an imposition they are on the poor Canadian populace. I’d rather have an election every month than have to resort to REAL participatory democracy as they have to do in North Africa and the Middle East, which is what it will come to eventually if current trends persist.
