Let’s Start Commemorating This International Women’s Day by Demanding Justice

I will open with a Happy International Women’s Day to all my likeminded readers.  However, I’m afraid this is not a pleasant post.  I will be talking about many issues facing women today, mainly in Canada.

I found it hilarious that Tasha Kheiriddin, preaching human rights using typical right winged talking points when . . . → Read More: Let’s Start Commemorating This International Women’s Day by Demanding Justice

Babs Kay And Robyn Urback, By Denying a Rape Culture Exists, You’re Actually Contributing to It

Boys n girls, Babs Kay has exposed her betrayal to the sisterhood yet again.  This time she contends that the rape culture on university campuses virtually doesn’t exist, or at the very least, is grossly exaggerated.  First off, she gives an extremely dumb analogy:

Health-conscious people do not smoke for fear of getting . . . → Read More: Babs Kay And Robyn Urback, By Denying a Rape Culture Exists, You’re Actually Contributing to It

Say What, Jason Kenney?

Well, boys n girls, Jason Kenney, still feverishly defending 2011 Harpercon election promise of income splitting for wealthier families, now says that it will help “stable” families.

“All of the social research indicates that folks who come from stable families tend to do better in terms of their economic prospects, and income-splitting supports . . . → Read More: Say What, Jason Kenney?

Canada slips 3 points in World Gender Gap. Now 22nd, behind Cuba!

Wow. Canada, for all of Harper’s claims, is not getting any better. For women especially, the road is getting harder. It’s bad enough that anti-women-rights advocates like Woodward and Ambrose are putting up roadblocks to women working to gain equality, the government’s attitude towards women is becoming more and more dismissive.

The Global . . . → Read More: Canada slips 3 points in World Gender Gap. Now 22nd, behind Cuba!

Republican Richard Mourdock: Rape is a gift from God

It’s not so much the absolute underscored disregard for women or the blind adherence to scripture that makes Richard Mourdock’s statement so egregious; it’s the rush from the GOP in support of the Senate candidate that is so startling.

The chairman of the Senate Republicans’ campaign arm is standing by Indiana Senate . . . → Read More: Republican Richard Mourdock: Rape is a gift from God

Mississippi Tea Party: women too emotional and diabolical to vote

This, coming from a local president of the Tea Party is no surprise. Being that it comes from a woman, that makes it full-on Eww! She must be reading Barbara Kay.

Our country might have been better off if it was still just men voting. There is nothing worse than a bunch of mean, hateful . . . → Read More: Mississippi Tea Party: women too emotional and diabolical to vote

Another teen commits suicide due to bullying, this time close to home. Coquitlam’s shame.

What an ugly country this is turning out to be. Our government is being assailed by other nations for its war on children. Women and their rights are now under attack. People of colour and alternative sexual orientation are openly demeaned by right-wing media. It’s no wonder people are losing their minds and no longer hiding that . . . → Read More: Another teen commits suicide due to bullying, this time close to home. Coquitlam’s shame.

Judicial malpractice in France. Ten gang-rapists acquitted. Four get light sentences.

What’s happening in France? Yes, racism has long been a problem for that country. But serial gang rapes? (Emphasis mine.)

Ten French men have been acquitted and four have received short sentences over the gang-rape of teenage girls in a trial described by one of the victims’ lawyers as a “judicial shipwreck”.

GOP Rep: “some girls rape easy”

Where we’re lectured on what “full context” means (emphasis mine):

Madison – A state representative is drawing heat for saying that his father had told him when he was young that “some girls rape easy” as a way to warn him that a woman could agree to sex but then later claim that it . . . → Read More: GOP Rep: “some girls rape easy”

Australia PM Julia Gillard labels opposition leader Tony Abbott a misogynist

Nicely done. I especially love watching Abbott’s face as it slowly dissolves from smirk to anger to something akin to shame.

Something to think about when Canada votes in its next female PM, almost certainly to be a Dipper or Liberal.

Fuqua’s Folly: Canada’s future under Harper, Woodworth, Kenney et al?

Yep, here’s where Canada’s Conservative party could one day be headed. With the subtle but urgent march of the likes of Woodworth, Kenney, and the 91 MP’s who voted against women’s rights, how much longer before we are urged to debate the right of women to vote? Or, listen to a recommendation . . . → Read More: Fuqua’s Folly: Canada’s future under Harper, Woodworth, Kenney et al?

Gee, That Was Fast! M-312 Dies and 24 Hours Later, M-408 Crawls out of The Woodwork!

Boys ‘n’ girls, I expressed concern that another hideous fetus bill or motion would be tabled sooner rather than later. I think many of us had that sick feeling.  This evening, we were Proven right.  The new wank face of fetus is Langley Harpercon, Mark Warawa AKA ra ra war.  He is supporting . . . → Read More: Gee, That Was Fast! The Battle For Our Reproductive Rights is Won…But Why Do I Think We Haven’t Won the War?

I know I haven’t written about ol’ Wankworth and his wankiness in some time.  Then again, I haven’t blogged about much of anything as of late.  I must offer my 2 cents here, boys ‘n’ girls.  I’m happy that this M-312 never came to light. Iranian cleric gets just desserts after chastising woman for being ‘badly covered’

Outside of the hockey arena or football field, I don’t condone violent acts against individuals or groups. But I can’t help feeling a little giddy when I read about this fearless woman fighting back against an asshole cleric for dressing her down.

The sexualized, infantilized coverage of Pussy Riot by western media

by Igor Mukhin

Sarah Kendzior, in an article appearing in the Atlantic, points out the well-meaning but ultimately dismissive tone some western writers have adopted when writing about the women of Pussy Riot. The writer provides examples of this attitude, interesting enough from writers for the quasi-progressive blogs, Huffington Post and The New Republic.

Then again, given that this insanity is coming from a Muslim, perhaps not so fast.  It would if it were a white Christian with a “not-so-funny” sounding name.
