The Gift That Gave and Gave and Stopped Giving? Maybe Not

Ah I get back back from my lunch only to find the big but predictable news;  Mrs. Disfunction resigned; or did she?  Certain coincidences and hints around that this was all Stevie’s idea. I, for one, have difficulty believing she would have walked away on her own, given that Bob Fife on Question Period last Sunday mentioned her purchasing a new swanky house worth over 800 000$.  I mean, how many would by a house if they knew they were going to leave their job?

Of course, Steve announces this in a press conference in typical St-Stevie style of mystery and leaving one with a sense that some information is missing; perhaps much more information is missing. That is, after all, how Steve deals with a problem; he magically makes them go away.

“Last night my office became aware of serious allegations related to (Guergis),” said Prime Minister Stephen Harper Friday, before adding he has referred the allegations to the RCMP and the federal ethics commissioner.

Steve of course remembers to add that obligatory, letting us know how sad he is about the whole thing. Of course he is!  Say what you will about her, but her antics grew more and more entertaining by the  day.

I wonder what allegations he is referring to? Is there actually more to the royal couple of disfunction? What else did she do to deserve that dubious honor? It seems I’m not alone in wondering.

Iggy is on this too with no sign of letting up soon.  A tactical mistake on his part if you ask me, but I can explore that in another post. I will just mention that she and hubby were gifts that were continuing to give him and the liberals as well. According to the  people questioned on the streets of  Helena’s riding of Simcoe-Greay on Question Period last Sunday,  it seems they were tired of her and her hubby as well. I would dare say they failed to see the entertainment value.  It’s probably another reason Steve post-poned sending her packing as well:  a by-election would have to be held, and judging by those people,  Harpercon would more than likely lose, no matter who was nominated for Simcoe-Grey.  Hello brand new liberal seat perhaps? I believe that is the reason why Steve is not cutting  her completely; she will still remain MP for Simcoe-Grey. Steve after all may be hanging on to his lead, but he can’t afford to lose any seats neither.  

She was the gift that kept on giving to so many…yes, even to Brother Steve. She was a perfect distraction.  In fact, I would dare say that she was a far better deflector than a Minister of state for the status of women.  Her and Mr Guergis’ antics were enough to shield Steve from the evil opposition, the odd evil media (although, more are his sympathizers), and of course, those voters he wants “not to care” and to just swallow his kool-aid without question.  Mr & Mrs Disfunctional protected Steve very well and for that, he should be grateful. And, as I mentioned above, he probably thinks he is showing his appreciation by allowing her to stay on as MP when that is in his own interests.

One has to think; a highly publicized and disgraced couple, perhaps even married for convenience:  Am I the only one who finds it fishy that they married the day after the 2008 election he lost but she won??

Well, it seems that Rona Ambrose will be temporarily taking over as minister of state for the status of women.  Anybody who thought Shelley Glover would be taking over would have lost bets.  Rona is  a bimbo and Steve doesn’t care about the status of women in the same way he doesn’t care about health care.  Thus, he appoints  a bimbo the same way he appointed the under qualified Agluquack as health minister. Actually, I’m surprised Steve didn’t appoint a …. busty hooker from Jaffer’s favourite strip joint.

Since Helena is still going to be around for awhile…maybe she will continue to provide entertainment for the masses. Be it either a made for TV movie or  one of those so-called reality shows.

Since she is sticking around in an albeit smaller capacity, perhaps she will continue to be the gift that keeps on giving.
