It seems that after the hounding and threats he’s been receiving more than likely from Tea-baggers and their groupies have taken a toll on him lately. Although he denies that is the reason and instead, claiming that he needs more time with his family, the Congressman Michael Moore dubbed as “living in a brathal and a member of a cult”, Bart Stupak is not going to seek re-election.
That could be certainly part of it and I would guess that the Tea-baggers probably did chase him out of office as they seem to do as of late; chasing out politicians they don’t like seems to be a part of their modus operendi. Also, Stupak was high up on the tea-bagger hit list.
The Tea Party Express labeled him its No. 2 target for defeat after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.
I wished we had a group that would form and be strong enough to get Steve and the rest of that evangelical crowd out of office. Hell, I would settle for actions to save our universal health care system and protect and to enforce the Canada Health Act. I mean if uneducated inbred hicks can get things accomplished; think what smart, logical and litterate people can accomplish. But I digress…
I also believe that not only did he risk losing the next election to the GOP, there was a possibility he would have lost the primary challenge against Connie Saltonstall, a former teacher and county commissioner and pro-choice.
Well, Bart, damned if ya did; damned if you don’t. You acted like a good socon rethuglican with your antics over abortion; perhaps with the hope that you could sign a reform and make the tea-baggers and the Fox News crowd proud?? No, after all his antics, he still ended up being harrassed by the tea-baggers and more than likely he and his family would have continued to be harrassed by them.
The group kicked off a $250,000 television and radio blitz in Stupak’s district Wednesday, ahead of rallies that began Thursday night and were continuing through the weekend. It seems that the tea-baggers are already claiming victory and taking credit for chasing Stupak out of congress.
The surprising announcement that Congressman Bart Stupak is abandoning his campaign for re-election shows the power of the tea party movement,” said a statement posted Friday on its Web site.
The ironic thing about tea-baggers is that general grass roots movements that take place in other parts of the world are protesting, working, demonstrating for change for the better to protest changes for the worse. The tea-baggers do just the opposite…funny how they call themselves Christians.
As for Stupak, somehow, his departure may be a good thing; he won’t be missed by either side.
