G20 Canada’s Most Wanted–Call John Walsh!!

Today, the first charges of arson are being laid. Before the Harpercon cheerleaders and Blogging SupposiTories get all excited and run for the Depends, it isn’t one of the 900 peaceful protesters, media people, bystanders or folks going from point A to point B who were rounded up like livestock at the G20 protests, but someone who surrendered himself to Toronto police this morning.

Toronto resident Ashran Ravindhraj, 25, turned himself in to police Wednesday morning, said Giroux. He faces charges of arson and two counts of mischief over $5,000.

I repeat, he surrendered himself to police this morning and was not one of the 900 arrested.  So, no, I’m not eating crow just yet.

Yes, apparently, many citizens are turning photos of so-called Black blocs to Toronto police and they have released 38 photos of 10 people last week, who are now on their most wanted list. Interestingly,  Ashran Ravindhraj’s picture isn’t amongst the ten, which begs the question, why did he turn himself in?

It appears they are using facial recognition software but they admit it is difficult to recognize them. Well, here’s a thought, if these bungling Barney Fife’s stopped them in the first place, perhaps they wouldn’t need to ask the public for photos and help in finding the vandals.  But then, if that actually happened, there would have been no need to round up the peaceful protesters and other innocent people after that now wouldn’t there?

Sergent Detective Gary Giroux also says the ten, if arrested (notice how he says “if”: kinda telling, doncha think? As in, they may never get caught, even if they are; can you say: agent provocateur?) will also face charges of arson and mischief.  Yah, whatever. Sounds awfully hollow now.

Even more hollow is this.

He also took time to dispel rumours that one of the men, wearing what he said has been described by some as an expensive jacket, was not an undercover police officer inciting more violence.

Me thinks he doth protest a tad too much.

To translate all this; he needs the public to do his job, so he and the rest of his brethren can sort out who’s one of their’s and who’s the genuine article, no doubt.  I don’t think Giroux or any of them want them caught. As mentioned above, they would’ve been stopped and arrested on the spot as soon as the vandalism started.

Another thing: if they want the public’s support in anything; they better start learning to respect them more.

The most interesting thing is that it further proves to us that none of those so-called black  blocs were amongst 900+ who were arrested.

It will be interesting to see in the weeks and months ahead as preliminary hearings and trials proceed. What will be covered by the media and which media? How many will be found guilty or have their charges thrown out of court? The latter would be surely more desirable and would bring hope back to our crumbling democracy.

Then there is Ashran Ravindhraj and others like him. Will they plead guilty to either these charges or lesser ones? Will they be acquitted altogether? Will we mysteriously never hear from them again? I’m also inclined to believe the latter, unless there is some blogger who has access to that kind of information & wants to share.  In fact, the group of 10 or more of “Canada’s most wanted” and Ravindhraj’s charges and/or potential guilty verdicts/sentences or acquittals would indeed be most interesting.

The irony is that those who will be charged with arson and mischief and those dastardly deeds will be far better treated than the 900+ peaceful protesters, media people, bystanders and folks simply going from point A to point B and will more than likely be taken to a regular holding cell, instead of that hell hole those other detainees were subjected to; get a meal, have access to their phone call, get medical attention as soon as it’s required and have their civil rights entitled to them like anyone arrested under the criminal code.

Another thing worth mentioning is, according to what I heard at the CLAC meeting last week, the cases of those arrested will be tried, get this one, kids, one at a time. Yes, you heard it hear.  That begs another set of questions. Toronto doesn’t have enough criminals to provide work for Toronto crown prosecuters? Is this a way for Stevie Spiteful, Toews et al to prove how bad Canadians are (“Look! Look, how busy the crown is with those hooligans, thugs and anarchists from just the G20! And other insipid stuff like that). Is this another tactic to silence those who wish to speak against the good word of Harpercon? After all, it seems that this tactic of prosecuting them one by one would make it easier to get guilty verdicts for at least, most of them than if they were tried as groups.  To my knowledge, to this date, this idiocy has not changed. This is your tax dollars at work, boys n’ girls.

  • Torontonian

Does the phrase fishing expedition have place here?
What about the suppression or destruction
of supplied or contributed videos from the public?

Whitewash and damage control, that’s all it is.

The chief had better quit before all the maggots
    come out of the woodwork.

It’ll be an interesting city election year.

I bet. I hear that wingnut Ford is ahead in the polls. I’m sure he and Blair will be best buddies

  • Just a thought.

Does it strike you, at all, that the message of the peaceful protestors was completely drowned out by anarchists with no agenda but to wreak havoc.

And, before you accuse the “agents” of police or government, I’ll just posit that while I wasn’t there, and didn’t obviously know everyone in the crowd, so neither, I’m assuming, did you.

So at least, you would have to consider the possibility that these morons basically gave a huge boost to the justification of over-done security and subsequent response of police.

So, then.. where is the angst and anger towards the people who most clearly aborted the efforts of peaceful protestors in getting their points across?

    Just a thought.

I wasn’t there. But family members were.

Friends of mine were detained. You don’t have to believe me; it doesn’t matter; we don’t know each other, but I can tell you that they had no part in any of that shit. Like myself, they attend demonstrations to march, perhaps carry a sign and to have their voices heard. Frankly, we’re getting on in years and don’t have the physical stamina to outrun the law. They are not chronically unemployed kids who live in their parents’ basements (I read one of your recent blog entries) btw. They’re the working class, professionals, civil servants, students, mothers, fathers, grandparents who are all concerned about the future.

My mother was fortunate to not be arrested, but she never she never set foot outside of her home neither; not even to visit my father in the hospital. My mother’s home is right near the make shift detention center.

So at least, you would have to consider the possibility that these morons basically gave a huge boost to the justification of over-done security and subsequent response of police.

The more I read and hear about this whole circus (only because I can’t find any word bad enough to really describe it with my repertoire of profanity); the more this smells of cop; agent provocateur, at least for the most part and now they must save face somehow. I’m not going to rehash everything fellow bloggers and I have put together since this whole debacle begun. I’m sure more will come out though. The truth always finds a way of coming out one way or another; sooner or later.

So at least, you would have to consider the possibility that these morons basically gave a huge boost to the justification of over-done security and subsequent response of police.

I have followed your blog on and off for awhile now. I know one the issues you step away from Harpercon party lines is Steve’s tough on crime bills that he so aspires to put out. So I will attempt to put this to you in the hopes that maybe you will give this some thought. Mind you, it’s only a much smaller issue. Steve wants to convince all that Canadians are bad people & Canada’s a dangerous place to be and only he & his posse can keep us safe. This whole thing became more than justifying billion dollar boondoggle; it becomes about justifying his tough on crime bills. So, wouldn’t that be a good reason to use agents provocateurs? Call me a conspiracy theory if you will. But watch the next election campaign or the next time he tries to push those type of bills that he doesn’t bring this up.

Tough on crime bills to promote as well as the bigger picture which is of course, shutting down dissent.

I am also outraged that cops could be so sadistic as to rip the artificial leg off the body of anyone.

After that Sunday, it became a dark day for me indeed.

  • They aren’t surrendering themselves. They are being tracked down. The police are reporting them as surrendering themselves. Not sure why. But that is a lie.
