Ida Chong, BC Liberal MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head, come on down!
FIGHT HST RECALL RECRUITMENT DRIVE SIGNS UP OVER 1,500 CANVASSERS IN WEEK ONE OF CONTEST
Oak Bay, Kamloops North and Saanich North lead the pack
Port Coquitlam – Chris Delaney, Lead Organizer for Fight HST, says the contest to recruit canvassers for Recalls in BC got off to a strong start in its first week, as 19 ridings compete to see which will win the right to be among the first three to conduct a Recall under the Fight HST banner after November 15th 2010…
“This is an even better start for canvassers than we had in the first week of recruiting for the Initiative petition,” said Delaney. “That tells me first that there is a very strong desire for Recall, and second that we are much better organized this time than when we first began the petition against the HST.”
Apparently, all is not happy behind the tweed curtain. (Oak Bay-Gordon Head is some of the priciest real estate on the planet, being Victoria, we refer to it as The Tweed Curtain) Already in one week 151 people have registered to canvass to Recall Ms. Chong.
Coming up second on the list, we have Terry Lake, of Kamloops North, with 118 canvassers signed. Mr. Lake had the misfortune of chairing the Standing Committee for Initiative Legislation. I guess, his constituents weren’t that happy with his decision-making.
And a not too distant third, Minister of Labour, Murray Coell, Saanich North and the Islands with 112 canvassers signed. You may remember Mr. Coell from his gaffe last week at the Union of BC Municipality Convention in Whistler. He caused hearts to flutter all over the Province when he suggested in his speech that it may be time to raise BCs minimum wage, the lowest in the country at $8.00 (BC also has a $6 an hour training wage, to assist businesses in exploiting child labour) The next day he had to beat a hasty retreat on the subject. Sorry workers, you lose!
Contratulations to all the MLAs who made the list, you richly deserve it!
