Rumours in the media and on Twitter about Petey MacKay perhaps leaving federal politics in favour of Bay Street Law Firm of Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP. For right now, Petey is vehemently denying it; pretty much everyone from Looney Lilley to John Ibbitson quotes:
“I’ve got the best job in this country and I’m thrilled to be here,” the Defence Minister told reporters. “I have no plans to leave this job.”
Furthermore, his mouthpiece, Jay Paxton called the rumours “groundless”. However, Paxton had to admit he can’t rule out that talks with Gowlings have happened, and said he is not privy to all his boss’ conversations. Of course he isn’t! Paxton is just the mouthpiece, after all.
Even Petey, when questioned about negotiations with the Bay Street law firm, he simply refused to answer and walked away silently. It seems that the law firm in question is also remaining mum.
For right now, this is all just a rumour, of course. But as Ibbitson says, Stevie Spiteful, given he has handed the environment portfolio back to mad dog Baird when Jim Prentice stepped down last week, he is probably holding off until after new year for a cabinet shuffle. Perhaps why Petey would be denying the rumours at this point, because Master Steve probably asked him to hold off until the new year. Perhaps Ibbitson is correct. It makes sense, well, sense in the world according to Harpercon anyway.
True or not, I find the surfacing of the rumours of Petey’s potential departure very interesting as Stevie is finally admitting intent to remain in Afghanistan past the 2011 deadline, the F-35 debacle and, not to mention, the night before Remembrance Day.
Ibbitson is of the belief that not only is Petey going to leave in the New Year, but hints at others potentially leaving the Harpercons as well.
Mr. Harper has told MPs that those who don’t plan to run again in the next election should declare their intentions sooner rather than later, since there is a good chance the government will be defeated over its budget and an election called in the spring.
Well, ain’t that special? Trouble in Harpercon Paradise it would seem? Perhaps some Harpercon MPs just think it ain’t worth a political career to carry out Stevie spiteful’s diabolical plans?
What I find interesting is that Jim Prentice, someone whom many have said could have taken Stevie Spiteful’s job in the future, up and left for Bay Street just last week. Now, rumours are surfacing about Petey MacKay, who was also touted as potential successor. Perhaps Stevie is chasing out his competition? Given his totalitarian dictatorial stylings, I wouldn’t put it past him.
Another thing I find interesting is that Bay Street seems to have opened or about to open a refugee camp for Harpercons in exodus.
I wonder who will be the next to go, or rumoured to go?
In which the term ‘rats leaving a sinking ship’ has particular meaning

I wouldn’t be surprised if he and others like him left. That’s what I said when Prentice quit. CPC is sick, very sick. Harper is holding it together…barely. But those inside with any intelligence know that you can only hold together members of such diverse views for only so long. Prentice, Petie,…those types will never get anywhere higher than they have under Harper, and they have too many far right nuts in the party to make it as leader themselves, for now. Maybe later, when the CPC reinvents itself again.
