Hockey News: Team Canada and now … Team Quebec?

I guess ‘it’s no big deal’ but …

MONTREAL – Quebec has received the go-ahead to create its own hockey team for an international tournament next year.

Plans are in the works for a uniquely Quebec team to face off against teams from three other countries.

The tournament is being organized by Hockey Quebec and it’s already been sanctioned by Hockey Canada.

The national body suggests the move is no big deal.

Hockey Canada notes that provincial and regional teams regularly square off against the national teams of other countries.

But in some Quebec media circles, the move is being cast as a historic breakthrough after a 30-year struggle to field an independent Quebecois squad.
