Support the CBC – sign the petition

Found this at Far and Wide.  With the incessant attacks from the right, especially from Sun Media, CBC is under constant threat. Please sign the petition below to support one of the only sources of news untarnished by right-wing influence (save for Evan Solomon and… oh forget it) available to Canadians. If you’re a blogger, please post the petition and spread the word.

…one of the only sources of news untarnished by right-wing influence…

I’m really on the fence over that one. While the CBC has great programming and their radio is difficult to top and boasting such greats as Rosie Barton and Kady O’Malley, they really do seem to be caving into right winged influence, probably in order to maintain their funding. To do that, one must please King Steve and even then, he may well pull the rug out anyway.

Take Evan Solomon for instance, after that Fatwa Flanagan goes on the big tv screen calling for Obama to put out a contract assasination on Julian Assange. Years ago, this would would’ve been quickly edited out, or if technically impossible, the host would have admonished him, even thrown off the air. I mean, Solomon was pretty feeble.

Then, of course, there’s Don Cherry, in Liberace’s Funeral wear. He really should be canned. He gets more and more outrageous. He turns his Coach’s Corner, which is supposed to be hockey talk into his right wingnut tea-baggin’ soap box. That shouldn’t be allowed. It’s “Hockey Night in Canada”, He should only talk about Hockey, and nothing else. If he wants to do politics, then do a political talk show. Then, of course, his obnoxious behavior at the Rob Ford hootenanny, where he slams “pinko” media, basically slamming the hand that feeds him and keeps him in overpriced pink suits; that in itself, should be grounds for firing. However, we know that won’t happen, now will it?

The CBC is doing what they think they need to do to survive like most of us do in the kingdom that now seems to belong to Stevie spiteful and I guess we can’t really blame them, but little by little, they are being influenced by the right.

Support the CBC. We need it. If it needs changing we can change it. When the present government is gone perhaps it can be funded properly and be free of political interference.

That’s a big if, and the polling numbers as of late reflect that Harpercons ain’t goin’ away soon, unfortunately.

As mentioned above, the whole point of having a public broadcaster is to have non-partisan programming, Not more and more with folks like Mansbridge, Murphy’s Cross country Check up, Don Cherry’s right wing buffoonery complete in Liberace’s hand me down funeral suits on a Hockey show, as well as Evan Solomon going all wimpy with Harpercons and their cheerleaders.

That said, I agree, it is the only broadcaster that has the most quality journos.
