Boys ‘n’ girls, the Harpercons want to hold a parliamentary hearing regarding the future of the CBC, basically. And guess who their star witnesses will be? Yup! You guessed it! Pierre-Karl Peladeau, Ezzy Levant, and of course, king McCarthyist of the CBC watch, Brian Lilley-white. Oh yeah! Like they’re going to reliable, impartial witnesses! Even though Sun TV’s Luc Lavoie doesn’t think their “journalists” should partake, guess who will have their way? After all, watch Ezzy and Brian put dust the mothballs of their Sunday best funeral suits. I wonder which wig Ezzy will sport for this auspicious occasion?
Tory MPs on the Commons access to information, privacy and ethics committee successfully pushed for a study of the use of taxpayers’ funds in the CBC’s court battle with the information commissioner. The Crown Corporation is fighting to keep records involving its creative, journalistic and programming activities completely exempt from the Access to Information Act.
Oh that’s really rich! Hammering on the CBC. How about this? Tugboat Tony, how’s about you show us your G8 spending. How about the Harpercons start cleaning their own fiscal and ethical house before casting stones?
Peladeau has argued for a review of the CBC’s funding and role. He has also been critical of its approach to access to information.
“To end up in a situation where an officer of Parliament has got to go to court to fight another Crown Corporation whose subsidy comes from Parliament…it’s the taxpayer spending on both sides, this is really totally ridiculous,” Lavoie said.
“What have they got to hide exactly, why don’t they just reply to the requests that are made?”
The papers and the Sun Television Network have featured a regular series called the “CBC Money Drain.”
Oh Junior! Wuz a matter? Afraid the CBC is eating away at your own funding, courtesy of the tax payers?
Enter Dean of Gastroenteritis, who, like most Harpercons, appears to be at a loss for words and well, clueless:
“This is not about funding of the CBC, it’s not about programming at the CBC, it’s not about Canadian content on the CBC…,” Del Mastro told the committee Thursday.
“At a time when we’re talking about fiscal restraint…I think a lot of Canadians would be troubled to know that we’re spending an awful lot of money funding both sides of this case.”
So, he parrots his boss’s talking points, like the rest of the puppets do. So, boys ‘n’ girls, let’s get this straight, Canadians would be troubled by funding the CBC, but not with funding of any of Junior Peladeau’s Sun Media and Sun TV News aka Fox News North? And while we’re on the subject of federal government spending, we’re sooo bothered by funding for a public broadcaster, but not for all the waste, corporate welfare and tax cuts for big oil and such, and pork barreling, like G8 in Muskoka, Tugboat Tony? And I’ve barely scratched the surface here! Really! It’s time to wake up! Stop swallowing the kool-aid and start thinking critically!
Oh, what do we have here? A disgruntled CBC employer? Here’s CBC brass and Information Commissioner Suzanne Legault!
The CBC was “red-flagged” by Legault as having one of the worst response rates to access-to-information requests. She has also pointed out that the CBC was inundated with access requests immediately after it came under the Act for the first time in 2007.
Ok, Suzy, are we trying for a senate seat or a job at Fox News North Sunshine girl here? You do realize that there are no women hosts after 17:00pm in the world of Junior Peladeau, do you? Your success will likely depend how well you sport a brightly coloured, sleeveless frocks rather than skill. Not sure if Krista Erickson can stand the competition.
Oh, how low will some of these people sink?
I don’t know whether to laugh or take an anti-depressant here.
