Well, boys ‘n’ girls, here the ol’ Senator “sell-out” Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu goes again! He appears to be promoting suicide amongst prisoners.
“Basically, every killer should (have) the right to his own rope in his cell. They can decide whether to live,”
And boys ‘n’ girls, like the abortion debate that is making a come back, he would also like a debate about bringing back the death penalty. He says he means only the baddest prisoners-those with “no hope” of rehabilitation, of course. Do remember that back pedaling. Oh, and concern trolls, spare me the ol’ but..but…he lost his daughter to rape and murder and he did so much advocacy work for victims of crime. I’ve already acknowledged that in a previous post.
As I’ve also mentioned, he cheapened himself when he sold himself out for a senate seat, 6-figure salary and all the benefits that go with that. It is dangerous for him to make statements like that, as he sits on a tough on crime committee. He is obviously not unbiased and thus, unsuitable to be taking part in any policy regarding lawn order.
Yes, listening to the ol’ senator talking economics is just as entertaining, especially regarding the Shafias. He is realizing how much it costs to warehouse prisoners.
Mr. Boisvenu said that in addition to the lack of a potential rehabilitation, there are also economic issues at play when considering the issue of the death penalty. He pointed specifically to the recent conviction of three members of the Shafia family – the father, the mother and one of their sons – who were found guilty on Sunday of four “honour” killings.
“Their incarceration will cost $10-million to the Canadian government. There is an economic problem there, it’s $10-million that won’t be spent elsewhere, that is being spent on criminals,” he said.
By golly gee! Is he only realizing the costs now? That’s particularly hilarious, given how ga ga giddy he is over that dumb on crime omnibus bill. I guess when he was shouting the praises of this omnibus bill, he never thought as to how much more money we’re going to spend on mega-prisons and brand new prisoners. You see, it costs about the same to warehouse pot-growers and those convicted of minor crimes–those who will be going to jail who would’ve otherwise served their sentences in the community. Yet, that didn’t seem to bother the ol’ coot when he was promoting that bill. Funny how the media didn’t pounce on him with that, specifically, but then, as we know, most of Canadian media is more of propoganda arm for the Harpercons.
It turns out that at least two of his fellow Harpercon senators from la belle province don’t seem to agree with him. As we know, Senator Pierre-Claude Nolin voted against the bill and the smartest one in that room, oddly enough, is the illiterate Senator Hockey coach, Jacques Demers.
“I think we should do everything in our power to try and rehabilitate people who have had a very difficult life,” he said. “Sometimes there’s no excuses, but there are people who need a second and sometimes a third chance.”
Indeed. Not to mention, cheaper. Yes, education, prevention and rehabilitation is not only cheaper, but a better investment in the long run.
Not very bright, not becoming of a senator or politician and not objective enough to serve on some lawn order committee. Not to mention, counselling suicide is illegal. But then again, tough on crime is for everybody else, but not those Harpercons, as we’ve seen time and again.
Oh, and a bonus track to refresh our memories of the stupidity that is Senator “sell-out”, from 2010, when the long gun registry was being debated:
In an interview with The Canadian Press in 2010 about the long-gun registry, he said the number of hunters in Quebec was declining because of the increasing numbers of single mothers who weren’t passing on the tradition.
He went further in his logic, saying that fewer hunters meant more car accidents.
Fewer hunters “has a direct impact on the number of accidents on the road because deer hit cars.”
Well, if he has this much contempt for single mothers, then I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that he would actually promote the suicide of prisoners.
Trial Balloon Time
HarperCON has instructed one of his MP / Senator puppets to float a trial balloon in order to gauge public reaction; then his obedient puppet MP / Senator takes the heat instead of Harper.
Harper is just ticking them off his list. This obsequious puppet Con MP / Senator is his mouth piece, running it up the old flag pole, seeing which way the wind is blowing. Sometime next year some other Reform scullion will bring up the subject of reinstating the death penalty, and all the injustice that adheres to that punishment. It’s only a matter of time. All with the full support of the Globe and Mail.

Isn’t it interesting that Harper will get others to walk the plank for him? A true profile in courage!
