I was on Twitter earlier this evening and some of the tweets quite frankly made my blood run cold. It seemed that quite a few out there were actually minimizing ol’ Tommy Flanagan’s musings about Child pornography. Flanagan’s not evil–only trying to be controversial, some say. Others clearly too stupid to understand the ramifications of Child pornography. Most of all, these people are overlooking the fact that Flanagan, himself, has admitted that he is on NAMBLA (North-American Man Boy Love Association for several years now. I dunno, but it seems to me that he must endorse child porn. One does not wind up by fluke on NAMBLA’s mailing list and even if one did, a conscientious human being would do all to make sure that that never happens again.
One other fool tweeted to me that basically, well, there are those who did more serious crimes who are doing lighter sentences than child pornographers– an indication that he has no clue how serious child porn is. What Flanagan and these despicable fools are not getting is that child porn is not a victimless crime. Children go through unspeakable abuse in order to produce child porn. In fact, many of these exploited children go through such severe harm that they suffer long term if not permanent consequences. Got that? The fact is that if there were no consumers of child porn, there wouldn’t be a market for it. So yeah, the consumers of child porn is just as guilty as the producers. So yeah, Flanagan is bloody well evil. To hear him talk or others who minimize what he said, one would think that these clowns think that perhaps Robin Sharpe got a bad wrap. So the next time someone has the temptation to think, poor Tom is getting a bad wrap, think of the poor victims of child pornography and their short and long term pain and suffering they go through instead.
Next up? The Globe and Mail announcing that Flanagan will be put on a brief leave of absence but his columns will resume following that period of time.
Demonstrating that neither plagiarism nor support for child porn is sufficient to bar the anointed from the sacred pages.
I was disgusted last night to see Steve Paikin giving him a platform to sing his flat, monotone rendition of “I was Framed”!!! He hasn’t backed down at all from his position, everything he said convinced me he must have a large collection, and must know other collectors personally, from the way he was wording his answers. I especially love how getting on NAMBLA’s mailing list was “a long story”…. do tell, Tom, I’m all ears….
