Margaret Atwood Debunks Some Myths On Sun Media’s Turf

Well, boys ‘n’ girls,  Sun Media is still on their path to, uh, ‘redemption’, it would seem. They gave Margaret Atwood space to not only defend herself from the hate machine led by the regime of KKKory, but also debunk some myths and she does it very well.

SUN: George Soros “funds” Avaaz, a U.S. organization. By signing its petition, I have “sold out” to both Soros and the U.S.

FACT: Avaaz is international, and funded 100% by members. Once, George Soros gave 5%.

FALSE NAMES

SUN: The Avaaz petition was stuffed with signatures from people who didn’t sign it.

FACT: Someone in Ottawa stuffed; Ex-Quebecor v-p Kory Teneycke has admitted he knew, almost as soon as it happened. The RCMP has been asked to investigate: Maybe it’s fraud. Would you want your name on something you didn’t sign?

AL JAZEERA

SUN: “Al Jazeera lover.”

FACT: I was once interviewed by Riz Khan about my writing. Many folks associated with the Sun appear on CBC TV shows. Does that make them “CBC lovers”?

TRAVEL AND DRINKING HABITS

SUN: Champagne-swilling jet-setter.

TRUTH: I prefer Scotch, and use public transport. Planes, trains, and buses for work-related and charity events. I offset with Zerofootprint and Offsetters.

POLITICAL LEANINGS

SUN: Leftie pinko Green.

FACT: Swing Voter. We look for values, not labels. I’d vote for a turnip if it was accountable, transparent, a parliamentary democrat, and listened to people. “Green” is not the same as “Left,” many people like the outdoors and don’t want their kids killed by chemicals.

DID I SPEAK AT A PRO-SEPARATIST RALLY?

Nope, I spoke at a pro-unity rally. (People mess with my Wikipedia)

Sadly,  given the nature of your typical Sun reader, I don’t think too many will believe Ms Atwood, like so many of these shrieking monkeys under the name of today’s neo-cons, they always prefer to believe the worst of others who dissent. It makes life easier for them (hey, isn’t that why they read Sun to begin with due to that easy language  they so love to brag about?). They have to have their villains and Margaret Atwood happens to be one as she, like other Canadians, would prefer to have responsible media.

Oh, and I suspect  there will be further pissed off readers as Ms Atwood proceeds to explain facts. Remember who she’s dealing with, now; folks who seem to be content to remain ignorant of facts and correct information; nowadays informed and educated is now “elite” and “arrogant” and anyone seeking to correct their facts or teach them something comes unappreciated; they were conditioned that way, unfortunately.

REAL CENSORSHIP INCLUDES

Book burning, murdering, jailing and exiling writers, and shutting down newspapers, publishers, and TV stations. If you are against this, support PEN International and Index on Censorship.

Calling the Avaaz petition “censorship” is beyond cheap.

IS IT “CENSORSHIP” TO BLOCK TROLLS ON TWITTER?

No, and it’s not “censorship” to send back hate mail unopened and refuse material for your own blog, either.

Anyone can vent on their own Twitter or blog. And anyone can sign a petition to express their views.

Free speech and freedom of expression to these neo-cons is just for them though, not for the rest of us, even ol’ Ezzy Levant, as he has proven time and again. (Go over to JJ’s to see the new proposed site design for ol’ Ezzy; it’s cute). Hell, what Ms Atwood just explained about blocking trolls on Twitter (can be applied to blogs for that matter), would be disputed by the likes of Ezzy and the rest of the screeching Blogging SupposiTory element, but we know they’re notorious for doing it themselves.  To them, it is ok to do this, but how dare we do it! Why, it’s…it’s…censorship!!

As for Sun, first the apology yesterday, now space for Margaret Atwood to speak her piece. What is happening these days at Sun? Is this really an attempt at redemption?  Simply damage control from the carnage that was KKKory?

It sure is fun watching them grovel! I wonder what will come next?

As for Margaret Atwood, glad to see her fighting back! Probably the only column written on Sun Media with any class since the departures of real writers like Eric Margolis and Greg Weston.

And yes, Margaret’s turnip would make a very good Prime Minister! Shall we all campaign for Margaret Atwood’s turnip, kids? I think I will start a Facebook group, just for the hell of it!

Update: The facebook group: Vote Margaret Atwood’s Turnip for Prime Minister of Canada is now up and running. Hope you join!

  • Atwood is just digging herself deeper. Sure, we get what she’s saying but she’s preaching to the choir. Sun readers do not read the paper anyway. They look at the pictures and consume the Sports section. Most people’s access to the Sun is through a copy lying on a table at Tim Horton’s. It’s a tabloid, small and precise, with short blurbs that are easy to read while drinking a coffee. What the mostly casual Sun reader likes most about the paper is its perfect size to prevent it’s edges from dipping in the ketchup. The only people who take the Sun seriously are Blogging Tories and let’s face it, there’s not a whole lot of them.

  • Oops. I meant ‘its’ not ‘it’s’ in second-last para.

  • Well, she does do her best, aping the Sun’s dumbed down style in doing so. That said, judging by the comments, it would seem that few bothered reading her words.

STEPPEUP: “Margaret, and other nut’s [sic] like her, still don’t get it. When it comes to the inviroment [sic] you ‘Cannot’ offset your carbon footprint. Once you pollute, you pollute. End of story. Paying any money to ‘Offset’ what you polluted DOES NOT reduce your polution [sic] in any way, shape, or form.”

FACT: At no point in her piece does Ms Atwood mention the environment, carbon footprints, pollution or carbon offsets.

(Here I’m assuming that anyone who can write – however ineptly – can also read.)

    ck Reply:

Thanks for illustrating the readership that is Sun Media. Ian Davey wasn’t so off the mark, was he? Reading comprehension, definitely an issue!

I predict an epic electoral battle between the Turnip and the Onion Ring! Unless they can unite their parties…

    Actually she did mention offsets:

“…TRUTH: I prefer Scotch, and use public transport. Planes, trains, and buses for work-related and charity events. I offset with Zerofootprint and Offsetters…”

What a vicious, stupid bunch of commenters at the Sun

  • Holly, my thanks for that. I withdraw my criticism of Steppeup. Seems that Sunday morning is not the best time for my own reading comprehension.

Hey – the Edmonton Sun had the best sports section in Alberta when I lived there. A gyu named Terry Jones (not THAT Terry Jones, the other one) was always a good read.
