U.S. Religious Right Won’t Even Allow Elizabeth Edwards’ a Dignified Funeral or Peaceful Grieving For Her Family Members

My Gawd! Of all the tacky things this motley bunch of ignoramouses can do.  They plan to protest Elizabeth Edwards’ funeral.  No, I’m not kidding. Hate until the very end and beyond.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church, known for its radical stance against a myriad of issues including homosexuality and the war in Iraq, said Thursday it will picket Elizabeth Edwards’ funeral in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Classy.  How very Christian!

According to the Church’s press release, members of the Kansas-based congregation are planning to gather at 12:15 p.m. to rally against Edwards for issues relating to her personal life deemed offensive by the church.

The Church — monitored by anti-hate groups such as the Anti-Defamation league and the Southern Poverty Law Center — is known for its extremist opposition against homosexuals, Jews and other groups.

Westboro members often hold protests against the war in Iraq, many at funerals held for U.S. service members.

Funeral chasers. Hmm, they really need a hobby, n’est-ce pas?  I’m as against the war in Iraq as much as the next person, but protesting soldier’s funeral? That really goes above the bell on the tateless meter.

Led by Pastor Fred Phelps and his family, the church has drawn controversy for targeting soldiers’ funerals and asserting that the soldiers’ deaths are God’s punishment for America’s “sin of homosexuality.”

Ok, not the first time we’ve heard that wingnutty argument. Hell, I’ve even heard this motley group blame (at least largely in part)  homosexuality for 9/11.

As for Ms. Edwards, it isn’t exactly clear why this group of escapees from the local insane assylum have decided to protest her funeral. However, here is a promotional flier they plan to display, further rubbing salt in the wound, to put it mildly.

Oh,  don’t you idiots have Kenyan Birth certificates to create? Or books to burn? Or even chickens to sacrifice? Or rattlesnakes to breed for next Sunday’s church service?

Can’t even allow for Ms Edwards to have a proper burial and for her family to grieve in peace?  Now that’s Christian charity!

Just when I think the Christian Far Right can’t sink any lower, I see stories like that.  But, take heart, boys ‘n’ girls, apparently, Phelps and his ilk also seem to hate the Good Lord as well.

“You can’t preach the Bible without preaching the hatred of God.”
