It’s Official! The Non-Confidence Motion Passes 156-145

Stevie has adjourned the house.  You can catch the details of the Globe and Mail live blog of  how the vote went down. Steve is expected to make a statement outside the house very soon and I think we can expect it to be ugly. Count how many times he’ll (or any of his entourage around him) use words like “coalition”  or “reckless” elections. Take a drink each time he says either of those words.

Steve is apparently expected to take a stroll to Rideau Hall to formally request the GG to disolve  the government tomorrow morning at around 9AM at which time, well, let the games begin! Not that they haven’t already, of course.

Worse, watch media types like Don Martin, once again, egg on opposition leaders about a coalition being cooked up because he’ll be amazed that all three opposition parties voted for the non-confidence motion yet again!

What I found curious though, was that Helena Guergis voted with Harpercons not to topple them, given how she’s been starting to speak out against her former puppet master and such. I honestly thought she was learning that sucking up to Steve was not going to get her back into Harpercon reindeer games.  Then again, like Andre Arthur, Guergis may afraid of losing her seat in the next election, thus not so keen on going to the polls? Still odd.

More to come later, I’m sure.

UPDATE From the liveblog:  Steve did come out to make a brief statement to the media. From Jill Mahoney @2:50: Press release:

As the Michael Ignatieff-led Coalition with the NDP and Bloc Quebecois united once again, Prime Minister Stephen Harper vowed to provide the stable national government that Canada needs to complete the economic recovery and keep taxes low.

“By forcing an unnecessary election in this time of fragile economic recovery, Michael Ignatieff and his coalition partners are irresponsibly and recklessly putting at risk Canadians’ jobs, our economy and stable government.” said Harper.

Ain’t he precious? He’s nothing if not predictable sometimes.
