New box set from Canada’s most overlooked rocker, Michel Pagliaro

Of all the rock and rollers in Canada, Michel Pagliaro is probably at the top of the heap. That he is often overlooked has more to do with his Quebec roots and an indifference to fame. But the art is there, from perfectly-executed pop (including a stellar English album recorded at Abbey Road in the early 70′s) to balls-deep rock and roll.

You don’t hear much about Michel Pagliaro in English Canada. He’s largely forgotten, except in his native Quebec where he plays year round. He is more known in places like Southern California, where his epic pop masterpiece “Some Sing, Some Dance” is still played in bars.

Another reason is the paucity of CD material from which to choose. That’s been fixed with a new box set Tonnes de flash compiling 13 of his albums, both English and French, including singles not included on albums and a blistering double-LP live one from 1973. Here is a detailed list of the contents. Also included is one new song, titled after this set. You can hear it here. It scorches.

Perhaps a little of that elusive recognition will now come Pagliaro’s way. But knowing the elusive Pag, don’t count on it.

Anyway, check out the interview below and see for yourself about the enigmatic Michel Pagliaro. He’s a hoot. “I’m having a good time, so… Life is about having a good time because when it’s over … ‘I should have done this, I wanted to always do that. I always thought I could’ve done this. All this shit. Hey, do it!”
