There are three Canadians from the freedom flotilla being held by the Israelis at this time. One of whom, is retired marine engineer, Kevin Neish. It is to be noted that the only reason we know his name is because his daughter, Jennifer has identified him. The names of the other two, of course, have not been released. Apparently, the Israelis are set to deport him in 72 hours. Neish was off to repair a well in Gaza, but on the ship, his job was to be a go between; someone to stall anyone coming on board the ship to defend journalists on board.
“Since the Israeli military always tries to seize the media first to destroy evidence, my job is to non-violently get in the way of the Israeli commandos in a narrow passageway for about 30 seconds so the journalists can upload their reports,” he wrote late last month on the website Dialogue with Diversity.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, all three are fine. I hope that’s true.
“All are fine and well and we are providing consular assistance as needed and continuing to work with local authorities,” said Ambra Dickie, a Foreign Affairs spokeswoman.
At this time, nine or ten (depending what you read or hear) are dead. 48 activists and 6 soldiers are recovering in hospitals. To date, there are no Canadians hurt and Foreign Affairs isn’t aware of any other Canadians on board any of those ships.
Well, call me skeptical, but something tells me that Steve isn’t going to put his energies into fighting for the safe release and return of these detainees as much as he will vehemently defend Israel. After all, he does have all those Zionist voters to pander to.
Plus, after incidents like Brenda Martin and Suaad Hagi Mohamud, Steve’s track record for bringing detained Canadians back home is, well…dismal.
Oh this just in, perhaps Steve won’t need to make much of an effort. Due to worldwide protests, it appears that all who were on the ships will be released. Still, I doubt that Steve will make much effort to ensure the three detainees’ safe passage back to Canada.
