Finally, a decent ad attacking the Harpercons.
Hell, even Craig Oliver on Question Period pointed out to that organizer, Sandeev Chowdhury that he has covered a grand total of 14 summits of this kind and he doesn’t remember covering the country or city it was held, but rather about the working visit. It sounds more like a festival or retreat for world leaders rather than actual serious discussion of any substance. Watch ol’ Sandeev spin! Spin! Spin! Craig Oliver didn’t buy any of it. Nobody should.
Good on the Liberals for coming out with that commercial. Way better than Iggy in the woods in a blue dress shirt. Let’s hope they can come up with more ads of substance like the one above.
Of course, no doubt, Steve and his flunkies ‘n’ cheerleaders will somehow spin even that into coalition mess. Especially if Fox North comes to light.
One note for the EU leaders coming: given Steve’s arrogance in cancelling that global bank tax, as well as these oh so apparent overpriced summits; I hope that when Steve tells them to cut their spending and in so doing; cut their social programs may blogging SupposiTories appear to be jealous of in very short order, that these leaders tell Steve where to go. Like Steve said about the bank tax (paraphrased): Do it if you like but I’m not, I hope these leaders throw that very response in his face, or at least tell him that they will do what they think is necessary at their own pace.
Maybe it’s time for some of those leaders or their people coming up for this hootenany to bring up the Afghan Detainee documents. It’s one thing for Steve to dismiss opposition parties; easy to do when most of the Timmy’s crowd doesn’t care about Afghan detainees or how they’re treated in prison. International Law is abstract to them. However if any of these dignitaries (well, manybe not, as at least some of these leaders of some of the participating NATO countries were probably also engaged in torturegate in some form or another: like the British) or someone from the international circles were to publicly hound him with it and bring up international law, that would change things considerably.
Maybe that is the purpose of turning it into a ‘festival’ as Craig Oliver put it; to deflect and distract from Steve’s real troubles facing him on the world stage.
I wonder if this pork barrelling in Tony Clement’s riding will pay off for him in the next federal election?
Thanks to Woman at Mile 0 & The Bionic Liberal for the video.
Below, is the French Translation:
It’s Sanjeeve not Sandeeve, I grew up with him as a fellow student and his older brother is a friend of my family’s, my father in particular after I introduced them back when I was growing up (his older brother loves dogs and Sanjeeve asked me to introduce them because he knew my family bred golden retrievers at the time, the breed his brother was interested in getting and did down the road I might add) and they got on well ever since. I knew Sanjeeve had gone hardcore into the political world but that video was really difficult for me to have to watch. Sanjeeve always was a political animal before anything else, and I always suspected that for him power was something that would be too alluring to him no matter what principles he might have to sacrifice along the way. He is as slick now as he was when he was running for our jr high school student council, sad to say I didn’t trust him then and even less so now.
Weird watching someone I knew from so young being in such a position now though, especially defending something as indefensible as this, not surprising though I’m sorry to say.
