Stevie Spiteful kicked off his so-called listening tour today in Winnipeg. What’s funny about this is that this tour was kept pretty much on the QT, much like everything else in his government, but hey! That’s just how his cheerleaders like it, right?
He gave some long drawn out speech about listening to Canadians about how the economy should be handled post-stimulus deadline after the new year.
“We want to listen to the wisdom, guidance and common sense of the Canadian people as we move forward, not only as we craft the next budget, but as we look at Canada’s longer term economic action plan,” Harper told a roundtable of local business people.
Translation: unless you tell me to cut the per vote subsidy, slash the social safety net and implement austerity measures, I don’t give a rat’s ass what you think about how you think we should handle the economy.
Quelle Surprise, he refused to take any questions from the media and by the looks of things, didn’t do much listening to the John Q public neither.
Susan Delacourt launched a challenge over at her blog.
I would be curious to hear from anyone who attempts to ask a question along the way during this tour; whether it is possible to simply show up, ask Mr. Harper what’s on your mind, without having to go through a rigorous content vetting or pre-embarrassment check before you get to the microphone.
I see that she is as cynical as I am. Rightfully so, given how Stevie Spiteful behaves around the media and the public. She basically says that if anyone succeeds in this feat, they may just have the makings of a parliamentary journo albeit not under the Harpercons, naturally. Of course not, we know what happens when Stevie Spiteful is displeased.
Stevie’s entire speech is published at Susan’s blog. Read it if you have the stomach for it. I really do applaud her efforts for standing it without feeling the need to drive nails through her skull. I know that I felt that urge half way through reading his speech.
So, boys ‘n’ girls, when Stevie or any of his Harpercon flunkies say they’re on a listening tour, it means that the public listen to him and only him and not the other way around. Remember, Stevie already plans a nice austere budget sure to keep his friends rich and the rest suffering. You’re only there to make him look good, yanno, to compete with Iggy’s town halls and his summer bus tour.
