Huffington Post Canada has carried a joint paper published by Queens University, The University of Toronto and Statistics Canada that shows Canadians are increasingly becoming ghettoized by income. The paper
represent the difference that the income gap has grown between the richest and poorest neighbourhoods in Canada’s largest metropolitan areas. The numbers indicate the degree to which residents of those cities are segregating themselves economically
In order from eighth to first:
8 Quebec City 22%
7 Winnipeg 31.5%
6 Montreal 34%
5 Vancouver 36.5%
4 Ottawa 37%
3 Edmonton 39%
2 Toronto – 68%
1 Calgary – 81%
This paper highlights what the Conference Board of Canada issued in mid-September, namely that
Since the mid-1990s, income inequality has been rising more rapidly in Canada than in the United States
The joint paper from Queens, U of T and StatsCan can be found here and the Conference Board’s How Canada Performs research program can be found here.
