12 advertisers drop Rush Limbaugh after Sandra Fluke slander

After Limbaugh called the woman refused a place at Darrell Issa’s birth control table ”slut” and “prostitute”, the media and the progressive blogosphere and even Republican presidential contenders (save Romney who just couldn’t bring himself to criticize Limbaugh – Bain Capital co-owns Limbaugh’s broadcaster) denounced Limbaugh’s remarks. Now, thanks to social media, 12 advertisers have quit Limbaugh.

Problem is, this action only makes Rush more powerful among his followers. While I am happy to see the ‘power of the people’ reap tangible results against establishment hate merchants, I also cringe at the ammunition now in the hands of the blowhards.

Limbaugh, like so many other powerful voices of the right, feels that he is the victim here. That sense of victimization makes him feel extra powerful, that he is permitted to do anything for payback even against a single woman who has not done a single thing to harm him.

Limbaugh is doubling down on Ms. Fluke. Now that he feels slighted, expect more insults and lashing out at not just Fluke but against the media and of course the left. There’s a very real sense of persecution running deep through the right but it breeds in the heart of Rush Limbaugh. This will not end soon. To Limbaugh, this is war and he takes no prisoners.

UPDATE: Blowhards stick together. Unsurprisingly, Bill O’Reilly sides with Limbaugh.
