When I read ol’ Villeneuve Jr.’s comments regarding the protests yesterday, I honestly didn’t know whether to laugh or to be really furious. Probably both. Kinda like reading about IMF boss, Christine Lagarde lecturing Greeks about paying taxes when she doesn’t pay taxes herself. She whined about the poor children in Africa when the IMF has not exactly helped Africa. Oh that right winged hypocrisy!
Yep, to add insult to injury, Villeneuve Jr unleashes his verbal diarrhea at that Grand-Prix cocktail which is, of course, a black tie event which was a 1000$ a plate affair. Yeah, yeah! Supposedly going to a non-disclosed children’s hospital. Spare me. How much of that money raised is really going to charity of any kind? Speaking of children, does anyone know how many poor hungry school children 1000$ could feed? Yep, easy to do that in the security of that 1% bosom. Here were some of Villeneuve Jr.’s greatest hits:
In a five-minute exchange with reporters Thursday, Villeneuve urged the protesters to go back to school.
He suggested they were lazy. He called them an embarrassment to Canada — especially to Quebec. He suggested they were badly raised, by parents who never learned to say, ‘No.’
I wonder how often Mommy used to say no to Jr.? Probably never. I thought that was particularly rich from a snivelling brat who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and raised in Monaco.
It should be noted that his restaurant, located around that area Downtown where F-1 festivities are held, is also too expensive for most of us to eat at. Again, a place for the 1%. Ok, he sold it, but you get the idea.
And he said they risked scaring away tourists and wealthy taxpayers,…
Wealthy tax payers. Now there’s an oxymoron. I wonder if ol’ Villeneuve Jr has ever paid a dime in taxes? Probably not. Especially since Monaco is considered a tax haven and a place where no one pays income taxes.
“And where does the government get the money? From taxes, from selling stuff. The next thing they will say is, ‘Well, take it from the rich,”‘ he said. “And that’s when you have the rich moving to another country.”
Well, boys ‘n’ girls, Jr. admitted that he only cares about the rich as he dives head first into his fainting couch clutching his pearls. Yes, Jr., do sell your 3 million dollar house in Westmount and live in Switzerland full time. Given that Switzerland is another tax haven, I’m even more certain that you don’t pay taxes. And by the by, if the rich don’t wish to contribute, I’d rather they got the hell out and stopped sucking our tax dollars for their largesse.
And Villeneuve Jr. obviously doesn’t handle dissent well.
He said he’s heard from people outside the country commenting on the student protests in Quebec — but he said the opinion is ill-informed and based almost entirely on the one-sided take of protesters.
Pretty laughable when English language media seem to only scream “spoiled brats” and the like.
Jr also spoke of being raised on hard work. Cue the laughter! Being a daredevil driving endlessly around a track like a maniac does not constitute hard work.
Oh yeah! I thought Villeneuve jr was particular adorable when he started giving a lecture about democracy:
“That’s what democracy is. We vote for people — and if you’re not happy, then you vote for other people the next time around. And if you’re not happy you complain, they listen, and that’s it,” he said.
Uh oh! Jr., whatever will your master, Bernie Ecclestone say about that one?
And Jr., ol’ Bernie’s heroes are fascists, not excluding Hitler. More on Hecklestone’s greatest hits here.
Also, it appears that human rights groups are joining the fray–stems back from Grand Prix event in Bahrain, where folks are protesting their own repressive governments.
One activist from Bahrain addressed the crowd, reminding it that officials went ahead with a race there in April despite harsh repression by the government. He said activists were being killed as race went on.
He said he was heartened by the Montreal protests this week.
“It’s a stand that’s appreciated by the people of Bahrain. The people of Bahrain felt much abandoned by the Western countries,” said Naser Alraas, an Ottawa man who said he was arrested and tortured in Bahrain last year.
One man said the protesters were targeting Montreal’s Grand Prix because of the indifference shown to human rights protesters in Bahrain when the Grand Prix was held there in April.
“The people in Bahrain had asked that the Grand Prix not be held while these demonstrations were going on, and it went ahead anyway,” said Montrealer Ramy Nash, who was one of the demonstrators. “The police were very heavy-handed because of the Grand Prix, many were arrested and two people died.”
I was shocked to listen to Power and Politics on CBC the other day and hear the ENTIRE panel essentially refer to the student protesters as entitled anarchist brats who should really just shut up and take whats coming to them. This, from our public broadcaster. There was no balance at all. It was amazing. I wasn’t surprised at Martin Patriquin’s stance. We all know how the “prestigious” Maclean’s feels.
