Campbell Desperatly Grasps For Power, and Spends a Quarter Million in the Process

British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell was on T.V. last week half trying to convince, half trying to bride the electorate to forgive his lies and deceit. He said simply that the B.C. Liberals had to act fast on the HST or B.C. would lose out on money. He tried to make that case that this decision was one they came to quickly without much warning and only came after the election, since they never even considered the HST before the polls had closed. To quote Gordon Campbell, the HST “wasn’t on his radar.” We know now that these are blatant lies. Not only were the Liberals studying the HST between Jan 1 and May 12th of 2009, they had data showing that there would be immediate GDP failures and rising unemployment as a result of the HST. See here and here for more information.

So the lies have been proven. Nothing Campbell can say will change the fact that he out and out lied to British Columbians. He knows this and has now changed tactics from not on “his radar” to “here’s a 15% income tax reduction so please forgive me.” That’s right, a 15% tax reduction on the first $72,000 dollars of your income. Sounds great doesn’t it? It means that if you make $72,000 or more the cut will be about $600, if you make$50,000 the cut will be $354 and if you make $20,000 you will get about a $70 cut. Everyone can use a little extra money, right? Sure, why not. But wait a sec, first off, let’s look at the way this tax cut is being sold to us. This tax cut is on the first $72,000 of your income. How many British Columbians make up to $72,000? Well, if you are a software tech, you make on average $79,000 a year, whereas if you are an administrative assistant, you make on average $35,000 a year. How many software techs are there in B.C. as oppose to administrative assistants? My guess is not as many, which means that in reality, those making $72,000 or more in B.C., roughly 20% of BCers will be getting 50% of the tax breaks. There are some who make so little in the province that they wont be getting anything, though the prices for goods and services are still the same for everyone.

Clearly this is another move to satisfy those in BC who earn the minority of the wages. By satisfying them but making it look like he is giving equally to everyone, Campbell is attempting to snow job us all. Don’t be fooled. When you give 50% or a tax break to 20% of your workforce you are completely cheating the rest, leaving 80% to share the remaining 50% of your “generous gesture.” Shame on Campbell for thinking he can buy us off wi

I lied and now I'm gonna bride you. Vote for me!!

th this bribe that will do little for those who really need a break in B.C. How about social housing? How about addressing the issues surrounding Aboriginal Health and looking into all these schools you are shutting down? No, those aren’t priorities for Campbell. He’d rather spend a $250,000 on a self aggrandizing TV appearance and further $500 million tax break to try and grasp for power. It wont work Campbell. You’re toast and quite frankly, I’ll be glad to see the door hit your ass on the way out.

Logan, did you see the story about the 6 hundred million dollar retractable roof for the sports venue/casino? Well, apparently it’s designed not to work so well. cbc news. We need to recall Campbell personally, before he gets a chance to finish the job!
