A Harpercon Senator Loses it and Uses dah F Word

‘Shut the f— up’ about abortion, says Harpercon senator Nancy Ruth to International aid groups. Oh, you old biddy, just go ‘head, ya know ya wanna: say it: FUCK!! It would at the very least make her somewhat entertaining. I had to get that out of the way, because she has left an even more ominous warning of things to come, especially if Steve gets his majority. Something I always knew would happen but many don’t  believe. Perhaps Sen. Nancy Ruth will make you all believers.

“shut the f— up” or risk Prime Minister Stephen Harper taking even more harsh measures – abroad, or maybe even at home if abortion becomes an election issue.

Is that a threat or an election promise on behalf of Brother Steve? I for one would like to know.

Yes, one may argue after reading that Toronto Star article that she is saying that if these aid groups don’t clam up on abortion, Ruth is probably saying that Canada won’t send any aid at all.

“We do want people to feel a little nervous about where our institutions are going because our development effectiveness is actually being undermined,” said Joanna Kerr, chief executive of Action Aid International. “We are increasingly distancing ourselves from an urgent agenda … to advance the rights of women and girls worldwide.”

Kerr and other aid experts appearing on Parliament Hill Monday say there is now a “chilling” climate in the foreign-aid community, where advocates are afraid of speaking out for fear of having their aid dollars cut.

Then Senator Ruth  goes on to say:

“I hope I’m not proven wrong but I have every confidence that it will include family planning,” Ruth said. “Canada is still a country with free and accessible abortion. Leave it there. Don’t make it into an election issue.”

Well, well, the claws and the truth about the Harpercon theocratic to do list begins. Me thinks she’s hinting if  everyone doesn’t stop talking about abortion including in foreign aid packages, that Brother Steve could and would criminalize abortions here in Canada.

Well, judging by that video with Harpercon MP Dean Delmastro, whether or not anyone continues to hound the Harpercons on abortion below,

No Senator, I’d say you have it wrong, whether or not International Aid Groups, the Canadian population, G8 countries,  The Opposition Parties or Hillary Clinton  hound Brother Steve about abortion funding in any aid package or not, Steve will criminalize abortion here, in Canada if he gets that coveted totalitarian regime. The only difference really is that with all those folks mentioned above speaking of it, it backs Steve into a corner, now doesn’t it?

As for fears of  Brother Steve backing out of Canada’s commitments to foreign aid, well, Steve is already on pretty shaky ground on the international stage, isn’t he? For him to back out because he refuses to bend on his fetus fetishist ways is certainly not going to help his standing on the international stage, is it?

Here is the audio of Senator Nancy Ruth having a cow in front of all those aid groups.

  • Nancy was actually appointed by Paul Martin. I suspect she was just trying to give some friendly advice about the likely reaction of the real Harpercons.

Check out her cv. Doesn’t sound like a social conservative to me, not by a long shot.

Thanks Dawg, you’re the second person to mention this: Skdadl over at Pogge’s described her resume. However, it’s all in her delivery. It sounded far more adversarial than ‘friendly’ to me and many others unfortunately.

  • “Don’t make it into an election issue”? Senator, it already IS. And I for one hope it BURIES the Cons.

I read this an hour ago(on the Star’s website) and am still so angry I can barely think straight. Welcome to the Harper nightmare we on the left knew was/is coming.

  • Many many activist groups have been defunded by the HarperCons. Maybe Ruth was warning that many more would be?

  • Thanks especially for the Del Mastro video, ck, and for the audiolink to Ruth’s comments.

In spite of what I wrote at POGGE and in spite of my admiration for Ruth, I think that the video above should be an effective answer to her and others who would make her argument.

We can’t give an inch; we really can’t. If the bigots are already on the march, we have to make noise now.

  • hi CK…Nancy Ruth is a good person, who has fought hard for women and gay rights. I don’t agree with her advice to those groups, but I think it should be taken as a warning about what her crazy woman-hating boss might do. That’s the scary part. But you’re right about making noise now. And the louder the better… :)

    Hey CK,

Nobody in the Harper government, or senate speaks without Harpo knowing.

The old windbag, was speaking directly for Harper.

The Cons are anti-choice, and this must be denounced in the strongest possible terms.

For gawd’s sake do I ever detest the CPC.

Perhaps Harper chose Ruth as the spokesperson for this message because of her “prochoice” credentials. Ruth chose to support Harper and continues to choose to sit as a CPC senator. She is telling people they should not speak out against the ban on abortion funding for fear of reprisals. As if silence is the way to deal with threats to rights. Harper could not find a more useful idiot. Who cares whether Ruth is a good person or not – right now she is using her influence to support a harmful position.
