Iranian woman avoids being stoned to death. She is to be hanged instead

Reposting Jymn’s post from yesterday as the original had some kind of bug that caused my site to go haywire. So here goes! Take it away, Jymn!

Conservatives across the country are nodding their heads in appreciation of Iran’s leniency. But their hatred and fear of a Muslim country pulls at them to object. They don’t know what to think. Life is so tough. On the one hand, Iran is a brutal place with a scary religion and even scarier ideology. Then again, outside of that, Iranians know how to treat a woman.

Stoning is barbaric. Hanging is so much more civilized. As the Canadian Taliban would no doubt approve, unless you are Sarah Palin’s daughter, adultery is a punishable offense. God says so.

Also, serves her right. Sex outside marriage – or even the suspicion of such – is not Christian. Just too bad this all took place in Iran. Conservatives would have loved to get their hands on Ashtiani.

Snark aside, let us all take a moment and think of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani who was most likely hanged today for the totally phony accusations of adultery and having someone post a picture of her without the proper headgear.

The spread of fundamentalism must be stopped. We must stand up to the Conservative push for a Christian Taliban in Canada. This could be our future if the McVetys, the Harpers and the Kryskows get their way. I know that sounds extreme – it is. Don’t let it happen here.
