When you’re losing, what do you do? Get cheerleaders, of course!

Despite filling their roster with future superstars, the Edmonton Oilers are struggling. As if scared by a reminder of last year’s dismal season, the Oilers have come up with a unique (for Canada) gimmick to fill the stands and boost the TV ratings. Later this season we will see cheerleaders in the stands at Oilers‘ games. Yes, cheerleaders. How positively American!

Does that mean Stephen Harper will jump aboard and form his own cheerleaders? Can you imagine it? The Connies, somersaulting and cheering in unison with a shotgun in one hand and a bible in the other.

But wait, what am I thinking? He already has plenty of cheerleaders: Blatchford, Spector, Wente, Murphy, almost the entire National Post, the entire Sun Media and PostMedia chains and the people at the helm of Macleans.

Only thing missing with those geriatric gymnasts are the skimpy outfits.
