Iggy! You’re Stuck on the Wrong Tune! Change it Already! While You’re at it: Bury Adscam Once and For All!

Well, Iggy had been all over this Mr & Mrs Disfunctional thing from day 1 and now he seems to have a one track mind these days when it comes to Steve and the happy couple. He goes on about Steve’s breaking yet another promise about accountibility. I think Iggy needs to back off of that somewhat. Hint: The NDP nor the Bloc Quebecois seem to nowhere commenting about Canada’s new soap opera, The Middle-aged  and the Useless, which is exactly what this couple was; middle-aged and useless.

Yes, Canadians should know more as to why Steve is  sending the RCMP after Guergis (according to CJAD news this morning, this investigation would seem to have to do with Guergis alone and nothing to do with Mr Guergis)  and yes, this new acquisition of her’s, a swanky 800 000$ house  in Ottawa with what appears to be no down payment, that would otherwise have passed without an afterthought if not for the timing of said purchase.  Fact is, this is just another brick in the wall of Steve’s “transparent and accountable government”.  There is plenty more, but it’s looking more and more like forget the made for tv movie; I think we’re talking mini-series. This is a scandal; a rather entertaining scandal for some. Nothing more. Like everything else in Steve’s world, this too shall pass as it is relatively benign compared to other problems he’s been having as of late. If anything, keeping Hurricane Helena around had and more than likely, still will be the perfect deflection from more important matters like torturegate, climate change, the debate about covering safe abortions with G8 regarding  funding for women and & children in developping countries and probably even his potential choice of Governor General.

As for you Iggy, this will all unfold in the media within the next few days, weeks and perhaps even months to come. It will certainly be one of the most trending subjects in the blogosphere for a little while.  Just, let that unfold and only come up once in a while to let them know you’re still paying attention. As I pointed out earlier, the Bloc and the NDP appear to be leaving this alone for the time being anyway.

The Bloc won’t touch it because they’re busy resurrecting Quebec Sovereignty and besides, most Quebecers; particularly those who are unilingual French in the rural areas, haven’t a clue as to who Mr. & Mrs. Guergis are. It would be a waste of time for Duceppe to harp on that.

The N.D.P., who basically have nothing to lose or gain, seem to realize that there is nothing really to pounce on. Although, there were bigger issues of late for the N.D.P. to rail on (Quebec’s new health care plan in the Quebec budget and enforcing the Canada Health act is a major concer), but they didn’t…where are the N.D.P. these days, anyway?  Granted, Layton may be MIA because of his cancer and treatments, but where is Mulcair the mouth these days? I digress, but I will revist this one soon.

No, Iggy, all those items I mentioned above that seem to be on the back burner as the happy couple’s affairs exploded, should and must be brought back to the front burner. Show everyone you haven’t forgotten about more important issues like whether or not we broke international laws, why so many Canadians are still out of work, pension plans from former Nortel employees (and other such companies that went bankrupt), mismanagement of the books, the pettiness and non-necessity for these ‘tough on crime’ bills, his hypocrisy over senate reform and oh so much more.

Furthermore, like health care, Steve illustrated quite well that ministry of state for the status of women is not an important ministry: I’m sure that someone else who made this many or even less gaffs in another more important portfolio for Steve such as say…ministry of  foreign affairs would have been sent packing for less, surely.

Belinda Stronach more than likely knew how Harpercon women would be treated when she crossed the floor to the Liberals in 2005.

How much does anyone want to bet that Guergis was more severely spanked by the master for her temper tantrum at the airport in P.E.I. than Con MP Jean-Pierre B Blackburn for his tequila tantrum at the Ottawa International Airport?

Here’s something else  Iggy and the Liberals should chew on and go after brother Steve with, and yes, it partially has to do with the scandal at hand. Susan Delacourt’s column paints a portrait of a very woman-unfriendly Harpercon caucus.  Read it here. Delacourt basically illustrates how female MPs don’t generally go any higher than junior ministries (notable exception: Diane Finley, minister of human resources)  and they seem to be far more subject to demotions than their male counterparts. We may not like the beleaguered women Harpercon MPs Delacourt talks about but, she has a point.

In particular, Ex-lax committed an equally, if not more grave sin than Guergis when he was forced to resign from cabinet when Julie Couillard, his ex, decided to stick it to him. Yet, unlike Guergis, Ex-Lax Max was not kicked out of caucus. I would even venture to say that he is all but forgiven, even in the right winged media. In fact, I would go so far as to say that he would eventually come back to cabinet if he weren’t a potential threat to Steve’s continued leadership.

The fact is, many Canadians after drinking the kool-aid of the right winged media don’t care about accountable and transparent government. If they were, Steve wouldn’t be forgiven this easily for transgressions since prorogation.  In fact, many are viewing this as simply the Liberals’ manipulation to distract from adscam. Now here’s a dead horse that seams to continue coming back from the dead, in spite of the fact Gomery already reported his findings, the cops from operation Carnegie are out of the country or doing other things these days, players have either been prosecuted and properly disgraced or are dead, thus taking whatever secrets, if any, they had to the grave.

In fact, it is strange that Adscam is crawling back front and center these days in light of the growing scandals with the Disfunctionals  at Harpercon HQ.  Except for a few on and off grumblings, it is only coming back to life now.  Iggy (or any other subsequent Liberal leader for that matter)  is going to have to bury this issue once and for all. No, not with an investigation; for the reasons I mentioned above, it would  be pointless. Fact is, Iggy was still teaching in the U.S. when Adscam came along. With the exception of  whatever Canadian news was available to him at the time, I suspect Iggy probably never gave it a second glance. He doesn’t own it. Nor should he take ownership. He should make that known somehow. But Iggy, for the love of Gawd, don’t pull a Steve and throw Jean Chretien under the bus; something tells me you (and subsequent leaders of the liberals) will need his help in some shape or form in the not so distant future.

So, Iggy, there you have it.  Canada Health Act, the poor treatment of Harpercon women MPs, the books and mismanagement thereof,  insipid crime bills, their hypocrisy regarding senate reform and putting adscam to bed once and for all. Keep an eye on the ‘investigation’ of the happy couple, but don’t pounce on every little thing. Believe me, the media will surely even let  us know when the happy couple breaks a toenail.
