Is It Just Me, or Does Anyone Else Find the Timing of the Latest Harpercon Ads a Tad Curious?

Yep, boys ‘n’ girls, the Harpercons have come out with a new shiny thing–an attack ad against the Liberal interim leader, Bob Rae.  I guess it’s never too early to get a jump start on that election campaign now, is it? I mean, they better get chopping now!! Only 3 + years before the next election! Oh, and boys ‘n’ girls, I ain’t a linkin’ to this video.  If you’re morbidly curious, I’m sure there are plenty of places to find it.

Yes, some bloggers despair over this. Others are wondering when the Liberals are going to hit back and how hard? I agree! They should, before the video defines them–permanently.  The NDP should also take notes here–the high road ain’t gonna getcha anywhere.   Let’s remember one obviously sad thing about Canadian culture in the land according to Harper:  as some commenter mentioned (forget where I read it), we tend to revere bullies and jeer those who are bullied.   My fellow progressives, we’d do well to remember this.

That said, the fact that the Harpercons, with their healthy majority–no danger of being reduced to minority–after an election that happened not even a year ago— in their infinite paranoia, decided to put up an attack ad, attacking the interim leader of a third place party that many pundits and media types have been and/or writing off as “dead” right now, with 3+ years before the next election.  Hmm, to me that says more about the Harpercon war room than it does about Bob Rae and his mere 34 MPs.  I mean, wow!       I mean, c’mon! Does anyone realize how ridiculous those Harpercons look right now, wasting time, energy and money?  In a way, the Liberals should be flattered. Shows Stevie Spiteful is losing sleep over those dastardly Liberals!

We shall soon see how Stevie Spiteful will react once the new leader has finally been voted in the NDP and how fast.   That should be something to be paid attention to.

But there is something else in the timing other than the fact that those Harpercons are about 3+ years ahead of schedule with those attack ads. Another shiny thing to distract the masses from their latest crisis? After all, that is an infamous modus operandi of the Harpercons–bright shiny things to distract the masses from their transgressions and/or unpopular measures.  The most obvious would be perhaps Roboscam, Bill c-30, that warrantless online spying bill of ol’ Vic ‘lock’em up’ Toews, the bonus track of ol’ Woodsworth and friends trying to reopen that abortion debate. However, there is the less obvious–don’t those Harpercons, led by deficit Jimbo Flaherty, have their budget to unleash sometime next week? It does promise to be austere. The only question would happen to be exactly how draconian will it be? The punchline? Either we make these sacrifices now or we’ll become Greece, or even hint that if Bob Rae were in charge, CAnada would turn into another Greece.  Once the new NDP leader is sworn in, whoever that may be, I’m sure there will be tailor made attack ads on them too. Hint, count how many times the word “soshalism” will be used in an ad that is under one minute.

  • The attack ads tell you much more about Stephen Harper than they do about Bob Rae. The response should not take the focus off the problem at hand — how the Conservatives won the last election.

If the Liberals are smart, they will come out with an AD saying, Bob Rae was elected without fraud, how many Conservatives can honestly say that?

  • A bit perplexed myself as many Ontarians remember the dark days of Rae easily enough without the need for more ads. Sorry Rae, my parents worked long hours for many years building up their small business and you nearly put them out of work. We will gladly devote ourselves in turn to ensuring that eventually you will be out of work.

  • Great post – I didn’t bother to look for Stevie Spiteful’s attack ad – but I did find Bob Rae’s response – witty and to the point – Bob Rae’s “not ready to back down – not ready to make nice” (a line from the great Dixie Chicks)

I believe that during an election race there are financial limits imposed by Elections Canada on how much a party or an individual can spend.

With no ‘official’ election campaign underway, the CrapCons and their handlers can spend as much as they care to on this crap.

I think you meant to say ….“how the Conservatives STOLE the last election.
