I would have to characterize

Myself

As a root vegetable.

I am not aerie,

or flighty.

not even in the treetops…

Not a mariner

nor a swimmer

Maybe a toe dipper…

I am most comfortably at home

with my toes

in the loam

with the scent

of the earth

and the warmth of the hearth

to guide me.
